Here are the results from last nights UFC 106. Just the main card fights.
Amir Sadollah defeated Phil Baroni – Unanimous Decision. This one surprised me quite a bit. I was not expecting Sadollah to come out with such great stand up, he was easily able to out last the notoriously poor conditioned Baroni and win in decisive fashion. I picked the winner in this one, but I expected it to be a much more even fight. Props to Sadollah to his great fight.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeated Luiz Cane – TKO in the 1st round for Rogerio. Looked very impressive in his UFC debut and showed why he was so successful in his past fighting endeavors. Welcome to the UFC little Nog, as he follows in his twin brother’s footsteps. Showed great power for a light heavyweight and will move up the ranks quickly. I got the TKO part right, but he did it in the first not the 2nd round. Rogerio won the KO of the night for his efforts.
Paolo Thiago defeated Jacob Volkmann – Unanimous Decision. This fight was moved from the undercard to replace the Parisyan fight, after Parisyan pulled out at the last minute for undisclosed reasons. It proved to be a very good fight as I predicted and Thiago won decisively. One of the best up and coming welterweights, proved his technical fighting skills against Volkmann in what many thought was a boring fight because it was a ground based fight.
Josh Koscheck defeated Anthony Johsnon – Submission. The 2nd round submission came as a bit of a surprise to me in this bizarre fight. There were several stoppages due to accidental eye pokes and poorly timed kicks. Ultimately Koscheck proved me wrong and out wrestled Johnson, submitting him with a rear naked choke late in the 2nd. This fight won Fight of the Night as I predicted and Koscheck, with the only submission of the night, won that award as well.
Forrest Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz – Split Decision. This was one hell of a main event. They kicked the crap out of each other and the fight was decided with a decisive third round domination of Ortiz by Griffin. Typically one of the best conditioned fighters in the UFC Griffin proved himself once again with a great performance. Both men went at each other verbally after the fight too for some more entertainment. I wouldn’t be surprised if they fight again down the road, but for now, look for Griffin to take on some other big name light heavyweights.
Until next time folks.
