NFL Weekly Picks – Week 1

Thursday night marks the beginning to the 2010-2011 NFL season. A new year of crushing hits, big plays and drama will unfold as we all soak it in eagerly, hoping our favorite teams do well. Here we will be continuing our tradition of picking each game this week, but with a personal goal in mind. An added twist if you will. We will keep a tally, and whoever has a better pick ’em record at the end of the year will be rewarded. The reward decided on is a free-trade in our NFL Fantasy Football Keeper League. The winner gets any one player off of the other man’s squad in return for whoever he chooses to pawn off on him. Whilst the loser accepts the trade, he will receive a hearty slap on the face from the victor to add insult to injury. I can’t wait to smack my brother as I take his best player from him for next season. Without further ado, our first weekly picks of the 2010-2011 season.

Thursday

Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints

Zach – The Saints. Book it. They will pick up right where they left off last season and beat the Favrikings again.

Dustin – The Saints. You don’t pick against the Super Bowl Champs at home week 1. Also the Vikings aren’t going to be in full swing yet, because Favre’s late return to the team.

Sunday

Miami Dolphins @ Buffalo Bills

Z – I see the Dolphins starting off well against the weakest member of the AFC East.

D – ‘Phins. The Bills are pathetic, even with Spiller added they will get off to a bad start.

Detroit Lions @ Chicago Bears

Z – Da Bears will come out flat, and the Lions will counter that with their improved offense and defense. Jahvid Best will run all over the Bears aging D.

D – Lions. Suh and the Gang (I think thats a good nickname) will go into Chicago and give themselves a better record than a few years ago.

Oakland Raiders @ Tennessee Titans

Z – The Titans, led by Chris Johnson, will take advantage of the holes that the Raiders do have, but it will be a close game.

D – Titans, if Johnson is going to get his 2,500 yards he thinks he is getting, he’ll have to start well in week 1.

Cincinnati Bengals @ New England Patriots

Z – While the Bengals look dangerous, I feel like Tom Brady and CO. will start the year off well, before eventually fading down the stretch.

D – Pats, TO and Ocho will not quite do enough to overcome Bradys’ Pats.

Carolina Panthers @ New York Giants

Z – Giants. I don’t think Matt Moore is the answer for the Panthers at QB, and as good as their running game is, I don’t see them overcoming the Giants.

D – Panthers. Their running combo will be too much for the G-Men.

Atlanta Falcons @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Z – Shittsburgh will look even worse with Dennis Dixon running things then “Little Ben” and the Falcons will roll right over them in week 1.

D – Falcons, the Steelers are just not good enough to beat Atlanta, even in the Ketchup Kingdom.

Cleveland Browns @ Tampa Bay

Z – It won’t be easy, and won’t be pretty, but the Browns will start off 1-0 in 2010.

D – Brownies, Our boys are preparing to board that pirate ship on the mezzanine in Tampa, and the Bucs aren’t going to offer much resistance.

Denver Broncos @ Jacksonville Jaguars

Z – The Broncos will play good football and take advantage of David Gerrard’s mistakes to seal the victory.

D – Jaguars. MoJo will run all over the Broncos. A small ray of light for Denver though, Brady Quinn will most likely not play a single down on Sunday.

Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans

Z – The Colts will start strong as always, led by the ever amazing Peyton Manning. Don’t sleep on those Texans though, they will play the Colts tough like always.

D – Colts, it will be a hard place to win later in the year but I don’t see Houston taking down the Colts in week one.

Arizona Cardinals @ St Louis Rams

Z – The Cardinals will win this one in spite of Derek Anderson because the Rams are that bad. Bradford will take a few weeks before he starts to show his potential.

D – Rams, I just can’t pick a team that has DA starting for them.

Green Bay Packers @ Philadelphia Eagles

Z – Packers. Aaron Rogers will get them started early in what will probably be a pass-fest between himself and Kevin Kolb.

D – Packers. Kolb in his first real start will have to show up, but he will not out-pass Rodgers.

San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks

Z – Based on recent history, it appears the Seahawks do not want to win, let alone play football. 49ers get going early with Frank Gore and dominate the game.

D – Niners. Easy peasy. An opening day shutout is expected for Carrolls less than triumphant return to the NFL.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Z – McNabb gets things started off right in DC, Redskins win in round 1 against the Cowboys.

D – Cowboys, I want McNabb to do well, but Romo and the Boys will take it to a subpar ‘Skins team.

Monday

Baltimore Ravens @ New York Jets

Z – The Ravens new-look offense will overwhelm the Jets defense. Lack of pre-season reps will keep Darrelle Revis from playing a huge role, and this will expose the Jets as more of a pretender ( I say that but I still think they will make the AFC Championship game)

D – Ravens, Revis’ return won’t propel them to the 1-0 start they are expecting, the Ravens will win a Monday Night Thriller.

San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs

Z –  The blowout of the week. Chargers smash the Chiefs and set the tone for a big year from Phillip Rivers and company.

D – Chargers, I do not expect the blowout Zach does, in fact I think it may be a little bit  closer than most expect.

Week 1 picks are done, check back Tuesday morning to see how we did.
